June 12, 1957 - Nov. 9, 2021
Andy Stewart passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 9, 2021. He was 64 years old and a pillar in the running community as a coach, successful running store owner and esteemed race director. Several months ago, Andy's demeanor changed suddenly and spiraled quickly. Since numerous doctors could not pinpoint exactly what was happening due to numerous symptoms, the family hopes a brain autopsy will provide greater clarity. They have preliminary findings but are awaiting the results of one more test before releasing the information.
Andy loved everything about running, opening Finish Line Sports in 1985 and then holding several races a year, including the 30K and Sugar Land Turkey Trot. He was extremely generous to the charities he supported with each race, and always did more than just donate money by giving his time and sharing his heart.
He was a sponsor of Fort Bend Fit since its inception and loved speaking with group members about anything related to running and races. But Andy’s biggest smiles came when he worked with kids of all ages at his youth camps. He considered it a true calling.
Andy leaves behind his wife, Jean; daughter, Caitlin; brother, Steve; and sister, Lyn, as well as numerous cousins and friends who are too many to count. Andy was a devoted and loving husband who cherished his wife and daughter. He was the best big brother a person could have, always making sure we knew family was first. Please keep the Stewart family in your prayers as they navigate through this excruciatingly tough time.
Coaching was Andy's Passion
Andy was always a coach at heart and by education (Geaux Tigers!). To put it simply, he loved coaching and helping runners of all ages achieve their goals.
His favorite event was the Youth Running Camp, which was held every July. The kids enjoyed it almost as much as Andy and his coaches, which included his brother, Steve.
